WELCOME
Chemical education research is the systematic investigation of teaching and learning focusing on understanding and improving learning of chemistry. Research in the Liu group focuses on the investigation of different factors impacting student success in undergraduate chemistry and the implementation of pedagogical and curriculum interventions that help with student engagement and retention. We are primarily interested in conducting laboratory research with green chemistry methods and implementing the new and greener research-based projects into undergraduate courses across general chemistry, organic chemistry, and upper-level chemistry courses, as well as developing activity projects for pre-service science teachers and K-12 students. We are also interested in the implementation of multimedia learning materials/platforms and evidence-based teaching practices in large enrollment courses for an increasingly diverse student body; both quantitative and qualitative methods are being used to investigate the best practices of teaching and learning of chemistry. See the description of current projects in “Research” page.
We are looking for graduate & undergraduate students with enthusiasm for laboratory research with green chemistry methods and/or educational research in chemistry (the best practices of teaching and learning of chemistry)! See "Join Us" page for more information.
